ASHLEY TUTORS SHOWS TREMENDOUS GROWTH
IN ITS FIRST SCHOOL YEAR
More Than 180 Students Benefit from the Ashley Tutors’ Philosophy
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD. – Ashley Tutors (www.ashleytutors.com), launched in October 2007, offers one-on-one in-home academic tutoring to Washington, DC area students in grades kindergarten through 12. In less than a year, Ashley Tutors has grown from four students to a remarkable 180 students. From September, 2008 to December, 2008, the team completed 1,300 tutoring sessions.
Ashley Tutors makes school work enjoyable through the use of kinesthetic learning, a style that takes place when a student carries out a physical activity. The tutoring team also understands that each student learns differently and works to develop strategies that best suit each student’s unique style. According to the founder Josh Chernikoff, “the number of students is a testament to the success of our unique, individualized teaching methods.”
“Ashley Tutors has taken the time to get to know my son’s strengths and the things that motivate him,” said Maria Cornelius, parent of a student at St. Jane Frances de Chantal in Bethesda, Md. “His grades have improved and he continues to gain confidence. It has been a real blessing.”
In January of 2008 Ashley Tutors hired its first tutor, Michelle Silva, a Washington College graduate with a degree in mathematics. “I believe that learning outside of the classroom is important for students and that tutors are positive role models,” said Silva. “I’m excited that I can be a part of that.”
Silva is now one of a strong 15-member tutoring team. Ashley Tutors has instructors who offer their students knowledge from their own exceptional college and graduate educations, and who also come from differing backgrounds with intriguing personal stories or jobs.
By the end of the 2008 school year, Ashley Tutors had grown to 50 students and completed 270 tutoring sessions. Ashley Tutors stayed strong over the summer completing 170 sessions, and Fagel was featured on NBC4 discussing how students can stay sharp and keep learning all summer long.
“We keep growing with no signs of slowing down,” said Chernikoff, who personally interviews, investigates and selects each tutor. “Parents and students have found that our methods are successful, and they appreciate the convenience of having a tutor in the comfort of their own home. We will continue to grow and continue to develop individualized plans to help each of our students achieve their potential and goals.”
